Gustav Klimt... 1862-1918

Gustav Klimt was an Austrian painter of scandalous art and considered a bit of a sexual deviant in his day. The Kiss, which is nearly life size at 6' x 6',  portrays a couple embracing with the man kissing (or trying to kiss) a woman...but is she actually wanting the kiss? Or is she turning away? She looks pretty content so I would say she's ok with it. But what is the relationship? There are many symbolic details such as the black rectangles on his robe, suggesting the male's, well, peepee. The woman is covered in circles and whirls for the ova. And the overall shape is basically a giant phallus. (Kind of makes you look at this a bit differently, huh?) The Kiss created quite the scandal when it was painted in 1908. Women were told not to view it as it was considered pornographic, as was much of his work. He had 14 children (only 4 are recognized) with as many women, including most of his models. He rarely painted men or their faces. And when he did, they were more of an accessory.  For a man who was so obsessed with women, love and sex, he never married and lived with his mother and 2 unmarried sisters all his life. And with 8 cats. Sounds like he preferred cats to complicated relationships. Well I can relate to that.  Many of his works were destroyed in WWII by the Nazis during looting. Oprah herself bought one for $88 mil in 2006 and sold it for $150 mil 15 years later. Pretty good investment, I'd say.                                                                                                  Klimt died of a stroke and pneumonia in 1918 at 55 years old brought on by the flu epidemic. He once said "If you want to know about me, just look at my paintings.

♦ All wall art is printed on a durable canvas that mimics an actual painting.  Being canvas, has texture. It doesn't buckle, tear or crease like paper posters. I can't tell you how many I've had that get torn and bent and ripped. Ive had paper prints that ripple with humidity, even after framing. Canvas just won't do that. They also won't fade and the colors are so beautiful and true and the details are impeccable. You can actually see the brushstrokes and the crazing of the paint. If it's on the original, it's on the prints. And they're so much easier to frame! Or just hang them as they are.

♦ These are shipped rolled in a protective tube or a foam core.

♦ Shipping deal is for 2 or more prints. Pay to ship the first one, all others in the same order, ride for free!

♦ I'm sure you all know this but I have to actually put it on here...These are PRINTS. Not actual paintings.

♦ This is for the print only, No frame is included. Display picture is just a suggested example

♦ I believe everyone should have art in their home, no matter what the form. I'm trying to keep these prices low for just that reason. This does NOT reflect on their quality. I just really want people to be able to afford these and enjoy them...and who doesn't want a copy of a $4 million dollar painting for $15?

♦ Colors may vary on different monitors.

♦ As of now, I have a somewhat limited stock. As they sell and as I see what people like, I will stock more and more sizes. I am trying to vary them (not just what I like) so check back often!
